One of the fastest ways to build your Trovvana trip is by importing places directly from Google Maps. Instead of manually searching for each restaurant, hotel, or attraction, you can paste a Google Maps link and let Trovvana extract the location, name, and details automatically.

How to copy a Google Maps URL

There are two ways to get a shareable link from Google Maps:

Using the share button

  1. Open Google Maps on your phone or computer.
  2. Search for or navigate to the place you want to add.
  3. Tap or click the Share button on the place’s info panel.
  4. Copy the link. On mobile, this will typically be a short URL starting with maps.app.goo.gl/. On desktop, you may see a longer URL.

Using the address bar

  1. Open Google Maps in a desktop browser.
  2. Navigate to the place you want.
  3. Copy the full URL from the browser address bar. This will be a longer URL starting with google.com/maps/ or www.google.com/maps/.

Both methods work in Trovvana.

How to paste the URL into Trovvana

  1. Open your trip in Trovvana.
  2. Click the Add Place button in the sidebar, or click on the map to start adding a new place.
  3. In the place form, find the Location field.
  4. Paste the Google Maps URL you copied.
  5. Trovvana will process the URL and automatically fill in the available details.

What gets auto-filled

When you paste a Google Maps URL, Trovvana extracts the following information automatically:

  • Coordinates — the exact latitude and longitude of the place, so the pin lands in the right spot on the map.
  • Name — the place name as it appears on Google Maps.

On the Pro plan, Trovvana also pulls in additional details from Google:

  • Address — the full street address.
  • Website — the official website URL if one is listed.
  • Opening hours — standard opening and closing times.
  • Phone number — the listed contact number.

These enriched details save you from having to look up and type in information manually for every place on your trip.

Supported URL formats

Trovvana supports the most common Google Maps URL formats:

  • Short share linkshttps://maps.app.goo.gl/abc123 (the format you get from the share button on mobile).
  • Full place URLshttps://www.google.com/maps/place/... (the format you see in the desktop browser address bar).
  • Coordinate URLshttps://www.google.com/maps/@lat,lng,zoom (URLs that contain coordinates directly).

If you paste a URL that Trovvana cannot parse, you will see an error message. In that case, try using the share button in Google Maps to get a clean link, or add the place manually by clicking on the map.

Tips for importing from Google Maps

  • Build a research list first. As you research your destination in Google Maps, save interesting places to a Google Maps list. Then go through the list and paste each link into Trovvana in one session.
  • Check the auto-filled name. Google Maps place names sometimes include extra text like branch identifiers or neighborhood names. You can edit the name in Trovvana to keep your itinerary clean.
  • Set the category after importing. Trovvana defaults to the Other category when importing. Take a moment to set the correct category (Food & Drink, Activity, Accommodation, etc.) so your map markers are properly color-coded.
  • Assign a day. Imported places are not automatically assigned to a day. Once you have imported all your places, organize them by dragging them into your daily itinerary in the sidebar.

Importing from Google Maps is the fastest way to go from “I found a cool restaurant” to having it pinned on your Trovvana map with all the details filled in.
