Common issues

Solutions to common problems like map not loading, places not saving, and PDF export issues.

Running into a problem with Trovvana? This page covers the most common issues and how to resolve them. If your problem is not listed here, you can reach us through the feedback page in the app.

Map not loading

If the map appears blank or fails to render when you open a trip, try these steps:

  1. Check your internet connection — The map requires an active connection to load map data. Make sure you are online and other websites load normally.
  2. Refresh the page — A simple page refresh resolves most temporary loading issues. Use your browser’s refresh button or press Ctrl+R (Cmd+R on Mac).
  3. Clear your browser cache — Outdated cached files can occasionally interfere with map rendering. Clear your browser cache and reload the page.
  4. Try a different browser — Trovvana works best in Chrome, Firefox, Safari, and Edge. If the map does not load in one browser, try another to rule out browser-specific issues.
  5. Disable browser extensions — Ad blockers or privacy extensions can sometimes block map data from loading. Try disabling extensions temporarily to see if the map loads.

If the map still does not appear after these steps, please submit a bug report through the feedback page with your browser name and version.

Places not saving

If you add a place but it does not appear in your trip after saving, check the following:

  1. Check your internet connection — Trovvana saves data to the server in real time. If your connection drops mid-save, the change may not persist.
  2. Make sure required fields are filled — Every place needs at least a name and a category (such as food, lodging, or activity). If either field is missing, the place cannot be saved.
  3. Look for error messages — If a save fails, Trovvana displays a brief error notification near the top of the screen. The message usually explains what went wrong.
  4. Refresh and check again — Occasionally the place saves successfully but does not appear in the sidebar until you refresh. Reload the page and check your trip’s place list.

PDF export takes too long or fails

Trovvana generates PDF itineraries on the server. Export time depends on the size of your trip.

  • Small trips (under 20 places) typically export in a few seconds.
  • Larger trips (50+ places) may take 10 to 20 seconds to generate.

If the export seems stuck:

  1. Wait a moment and retry — Close the export dialog and try again after 30 seconds. Temporary server load can cause delays.
  2. Reduce trip size — If your trip has a very large number of places, consider splitting it into smaller trips or removing places you no longer need.
  3. Check your connection — A dropped connection during export can make it appear stuck. Ensure you are online and try again.

Google Maps URL not recognized

When pasting a URL to auto-import a place, Trovvana expects a standard Google Maps share link. If the URL is not recognized:

  1. Copy the full URL — Open the place in Google Maps, click the Share button, and select Copy link. Use this full URL rather than copying from the browser address bar, which sometimes contains shortened or incomplete URLs.
  2. Use the long-form URL — Short links like goo.gl/maps/... are supported, but some very old or malformed short links may not resolve. If a short link does not work, open it in your browser first, then copy the full URL from the address bar after the page loads.
  3. Check for extra characters — Make sure you have not accidentally included extra spaces or characters when pasting the URL.

Changes not appearing for other collaborators

Trovvana uses real-time sync so that changes show up across devices and for trip collaborators as they happen. If updates are not appearing:

  1. Refresh the page — While sync is automatic, a page refresh forces the app to pull the latest data from the server.
  2. Check your connection — Real-time sync requires an active internet connection on both ends. If either party is offline, changes will sync once connectivity is restored.
  3. Wait a few seconds — Under normal conditions, changes propagate within one to two seconds. Brief network hiccups can introduce a short delay.

Browser compatibility

Trovvana supports the latest versions of Chrome, Firefox, Safari, and Edge. If you experience unexpected behavior, make sure your browser is up to date. Trovvana does not support Internet Explorer.
